Fat Drunk Stupid love punk, they love pretty much anything loud and noisy but classic punk, for them is pretty much where its at. Its been that way since they formed way back in 1990. Like all the best bands the idea for FDS was hatched in the back room of a local, in deepest Dorset, by a group of teenage friends.
The line up
As it turns out the bonds were pretty tight and the line up of Jon Jon (Vocals), Johnny (guitar/backing vocals), Jer (Drums) and Stuart (bass) has remained unchanged since 1991. The idea was a simple one; play classic punk covers, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Undertones, The Damned – you kind of get the idea!
From those early years FDS have been playing everywhere and anywhere, making good friends along the way. Honing their sound with early gigs in the local and in friends front rooms, never thinking for a moment that it would last past a couple of years let alone a couple of decades.
From those friends front rooms FDS moved on to share stages, up and down the country, with many of their peers; The Damned, Stiff Little Fingers, Anti Nowhere League, Citizen Fish, Vice Squad and The UK Subs to name a few. Along the way they've played the Glastonbury festival, become a regular, hugely popular, fixture at the Endorse It In Dorset festival and have livened up countless pubs, festivals, scooter and bike rallies.
The bottom line
FDS never set out to be a successful band, they never really set out to be anything. It just turned out that people loved hearing those songs as much as FDS loved playing them. From a bunch of teenage friends to a bunch of men growing old disgracefully and still bonded by a love of punk, it seems Fat Drunk and Stupid are here to stay.
